Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, A Analysis of 100 Initial Patients



Abstract
result, laparoscopy will likely become a common procedure for general surgeons and laparoscopic cholecystectomy emerged as an alternative to open cholecystectomy. Surgeons will have to travel more to attain new information and learn new
techniques
as
these techniques become available. We performed 100 consecutive laparoscopic cholecystectomies at department of general surgery of Taijeon Eulji Hospital from 9th January 1992 to 25th October 1992.
@ES Outcome data from the first 100 patients have reviewed.
@EN 1) The age range of the patients was from 33 to 81 years with average age being 59.2 years. There were 63 females and 37 males.
2) From the time of the onset of symptoms to coming to our hospital, the majority(73%) of admitted patients came in a year's length of time.
3) Majority(over than 73%) of patients have mile to moderate inflammation and adhesion.
4) Patient who present with jaundice preoperatively should undergo Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP) in 11 patients.
5) Mean operation time was 78 minutes.
6) Four of patients were opened after unsuccessful attempts.
7) The removed stones by laparoscopic cholecystectomy, vary in size or number.
8) In 12 patients(13%), drains are placed following laparocopic cholecystectomy.
9) Operative cholangiogram was attempted in 10 patients, succesful in eight(80%).
10) Among the 100 patients, six complications occured in seven patients: subcutaneous emphysema, hematoma on abdominal wall, bile leakage, bile duct injury, retained stone in CBD, wound infection(¡¿2).
11) Postoperative pain is not severe.
12) Postoperative oral intake begins within 24 hours mostly.
13) The mean length of hospital stay was 2.34 days.
